The AC718 is Anchee's second ultra high performance tyre, in 215/55R17 98W XL and 225/45R18 95W XL. Graded 480 A A: an asymmetric tread for cornering grip, on a compound built to last.
- UTQG 480 A A on both sizes. The median low profile tyre we inspect in our workshop is graded 320.
- W speed rated and XL on both sizes, for performance cars that carry a load.
- Asymmetric tread, with a fine inner half for the wet and a big blocked outer shoulder for the corners.
- Five year manufacturer warranty, backed by us as the sole New Zealand importer.
- Same size in the AC818? The AC818 carries the better European label in these sizes, and 42 sizes in all.
What the AC718 is built to do
An ultra high performance road tyre for sports sedans and hot hatches on 17 and 18 inch wheels.
The AC718 is built to be driven hard and driven every day. Its asymmetric tread puts a fine, closely cut inner half on the road for grip in the wet and a big blocked outer shoulder that holds its shape in a corner, and its carbon polymer compound is formulated for traction with lower rolling resistance. Both sizes are W rated and XL, and both are graded 480 for treadwear, so the performance lasts. It comes in 215/55R17 98W XL and 225/45R18 95W XL.

How the AC718 tread works
Every part of the AC718's tread has a job to do. Here is what each one does for you on the road.
Grip in the corners
The AC718 runs a different tread on each half of the tyre, so each half can do its own job properly. Turn into a corner and the weight of the car rolls onto the outside shoulder, which is built from large, solid blocks that hold their shape and keep more rubber on the road. The inside half is cut much finer, giving you many more edges that bite when you brake and accelerate. The result is a tyre that feels planted when you push on and sure footed when you need to stop.
Grip in the wet
Grooves run right around the tyre and clear water straight out from under the tread, while the fine cuts across the inner ribs break up the thin film that is left, so the rubber stays in contact with the road. On the European label both sizes are registered at C for wet grip, the middle of the scale, and the AC818 in the same sizes scores a B.
Long wear, easy rolling
The AC718's compound is a carbon polymer blend built to grip the road and roll with less energy lost as heat. Less heat means a cooler running tyre, and a cooler tyre wears more slowly. The proof is in the grading: a treadwear rating of 480, against a median of 320 for the low profile tyres that come through our workshop. That is performance you do not have to replace in a hurry.
Steady at speed
A W rated casing is built and tested for 270 km/h, and what that buys you at 100 km/h is a tyre that runs true, stays cool and keeps its shape under a fast lane change. The AC718's tread is laid out to balance lateral rigidity, which is what keeps the steering sharp, with enough give along the tyre to keep the ride settled. On the European label both sizes measure 71 decibels.
How the AC718 is graded
Both AC718 sizes carry the same UTQG grade: 480 for treadwear, A for traction and A for temperature. A is the highest temperature grade there is. The median for the low profile tyres that come through our workshop is 320, and nearly half of them are graded 300 or below. At 480 the AC718 is graded half as high again. The full numbers are in our low profile tyre guide.
On the European label both sizes are registered at D for fuel, C for wet grip and 71 decibels. Those are middle of the scale grades, stated plainly, and they are the reason we point you to the AC818 when your size is in both ranges. Both sizes are W rated and XL, with load indices of 95 and 98, which is 690 kg to 750 kg per tyre.
Where the AC718 fits and where it does not
Good for
- Sports sedans and hot hatches on 17 and 18 inch wheels in these two sizes
- Drivers who want a low profile tyre that lasts, graded 480 against a typical 320
- Cars that carry a load, with XL and W on both sizes
- Simple rotation, because an asymmetric tyre can move to either side of the car
Better served by another tyre
- The better European label in the same size, or any other performance size. See the AC818
- Everyday cars on 13 to 16 inch wheels. See the AC808
- Electric cars. See the EP Founder CE101
Which cars the AC718 fits
These are factory sizes for cars we see a lot of, matched to the two sizes we list in the AC718. It is a starting point, not a promise. Always read the size and the speed letter off your own sidewall or door placard before you order, because wheels get changed.
| Size | Factory fitment on |
|---|---|
| 215/55R17 | Toyota Camry (2006 to 2011), Hyundai Kona and Kia Niro, MG ZS, Subaru Outback (2003 to 2009) |
| 225/45R18 | VW Golf GTI, Mazda 6 (2008 to 2012), Subaru Legacy GT, BMW 3 Series (F30), Nissan 350Z front |
