The AC858 is Anchee's all terrain tyre for utes, 4WDs and SUVs that leave the seal, in sizes from 15 to 20 inch. Gravel, farm tracks and the beach on weekends, quiet on the highway in between.
- Two builds, one tread. Six passenger construction sizes graded UTQG 520 A A, and eight light truck sizes with a heavier casing, 6, 8 and 10 ply, for utes that carry and tow.
- Carries up to 1,550 kg per tyre. Load index 100 to 123 across the range.
- B for wet grip on the European label on the light truck sizes, and an A on the 31/10.5R15.
- Symmetric tread, so the tyres can rotate to any corner of the vehicle for even wear.
- Five year manufacturer warranty, backed by us as the sole New Zealand importer.
- Serious mud? The Grandtrac MT1 is the Anchee built for that.
What the AC858 is built to do
An all terrain tyre for utes, 4WDs and SUVs that split their time between the seal and everything else.
Most New Zealand 4WDs spend the week on the road and the weekend somewhere rougher, and the AC858 is built for exactly that split. Four curved grooves clear water on the highway and throw mud and gravel back out off it, wide open shoulder blocks bite into loose surfaces, and a reinforced casing shrugs off the stones and ruts that would bruise a highway tyre. It comes in sizes from 15 to 20 inch, in a passenger build for SUVs and a light truck build for utes that work.

How the AC858 tread works
Every part of the AC858 has a job to do. Here is what each one does for you, on the road and off it.
Grip on gravel and mud
Four deep grooves run right around the AC858, and they are curved rather than straight. On the seal that curve keeps a broad band of rubber on the road while the water drains. Off it, the curve does something a straight groove cannot: as the tyre rolls, it squeezes the mud and gravel packed into the tread and throws it back out, so the tyre cleans itself every turn of the wheel and keeps biting instead of clogging up and skating.
Traction and braking from the shoulders
The AC858's shoulder blocks are wide and open, with big gaps between them. Each block is an edge that digs into loose gravel, wet grass and mud when you pull away, and holds the tyre straight when you brake on a loose surface. Because the blocks are large they stay rigid in a corner, so the vehicle feels planted on a winding metal road instead of wandering.
A casing built for rough ground
Gravel roads and farm tracks throw stones at a tyre all day, and the shoulder takes the worst of it. The AC858 is built on a reinforced carcass with a convex sidewall that puts extra rubber where the rocks hit, so it resists cuts and chips and wears evenly. The light truck sizes go further, with a heavier casing rated for the pressures a loaded or towing ute needs.
Composed on the highway
An all terrain tyre still spends most of its life on the seal, so the AC858's centre blocks are cut with zigzag sipes: fine slits that open into hundreds of extra edges for grip on a wet road, and let each block flex a little as it lands, which softens the ride and keeps the noise down at 100 km/h. On the European label the range measures 71 to 72 decibels, and the six passenger construction sizes are graded 520 for treadwear against a median of 400 for the tyres that come through our workshop.

How the AC858 is graded
The six passenger construction sizes all carry the same UTQG grade: 520 for treadwear, A for traction and A for temperature. A is the highest temperature grade there is. The median treadwear for the tyres that come through our workshop, low profiles aside, is 400, so at 520 the AC858 is graded 30% higher. The full numbers are in our low profile tyre guide.
The eight light truck sizes sit outside the UTQG scheme, which only covers passenger tyres, so they are graded on load and on the European label instead. Every one of them scores a B for wet grip, one step off the top grade, and the 31/10.5R15 scores an A. Their load indices run from 100 to 123 for a single wheel, which is 800 kg to 1,550 kg per tyre.
On speed, the passenger sizes are T rated (190 km/h) and the light truck sizes are R, S or Q, which reflects a casing built for load rather than speed. Every size that carries a European label grades D or E for fuel, which is normal for an all terrain tread and is set out size by size below.
Read the label for your size, not for the pattern
The two builds grade differently on the European label. The light truck sizes score B for wet grip and E for fuel, with the 31/10.5R15 scoring an A for wet grip. The passenger construction sizes score C for wet grip and D for fuel, apart from the 265/50R20, which scores E for fuel. Noise runs from 71 to 72 decibels across the range.
Identical tread pattern, different casing, different result. That is why every rating on our product pages sits against the size you are buying and never against the pattern name.
Where the AC858 fits and where it does not
Good for
- Utes and 4WDs that see gravel, farm tracks and back roads every week
- Beach and boat ramp access, with grooves that clean themselves
- Towing and carrying, on the light truck sizes with two load ratings
- SUVs on the passenger sizes, graded 520 against a typical 400
- Easy rotation, because a symmetric tyre can go on any corner
Better served by another tyre
- Vehicles that never leave the seal. See the AC828
- Deep mud, ruts and serious off road work. See the Grandtrac MT1
- Vans and light trucks that stay on the road. See the AC838
Which vehicles the AC858 fits
These are factory and common fitments for utes and 4WDs we see a lot of, matched to sizes we list in the AC858. It is a starting point, not a promise. Always read the size and the load index off your own sidewall or door placard before you order, and if you are going up a size, check the clearance and the speedo first.
