The AC838 is Anchee's commercial tyre for vans, light trucks, work utes and trailers, in sizes from 13 to 16 inch. Built to carry weight all day: a reinforced casing, a closed shoulder and a hard wearing tread.
- Carries 600 kg to 1,215 kg per tyre. Load index 90 to 115, with a second rating on every size for twin wheels.
- Both kinds of size. The numeric sizes older vans and trailers run, like 195R15, and the metric sizes newer vans run, like 235/65R16.
- Five stars across the board. Every AC838 review on Judge.me is five stars, and every one is from a verified buyer.
- Symmetric tread, so the tyres can rotate to any corner of the vehicle for even wear.
- Five year manufacturer warranty, backed by us as the sole New Zealand importer.
- Leaving the seal? The AC858 all terrain is built for gravel and farm tracks.
What the AC838 is built to do
A commercial tyre for vans, light trucks, work utes and trailers that earn their keep.
A work vehicle is hard on tyres. It runs loaded, it runs every day, and it spends its life against kerbs and in loading bays. The AC838 is built for that: a reinforced casing to carry the weight, a closed shoulder to take the knocks and keep the tread stable, and three full length grooves to clear the water. It comes in the numeric sizes older vans and trailers use, and the metric sizes newer vans run, from 13 to 16 inch.

How the AC838 tread works
Every part of the AC838 has a job to do. Here is what each one does for you on the road.
Closed shoulders that take the load
A loaded van leans hard on the outside edge of its tyres every time it turns. The AC838's shoulders are closed, which means the outer blocks are joined into one continuous band instead of being cut into separate lugs. A solid shoulder does not squirm under weight, so the vehicle stays steady in a corner, stops straighter under brakes and wears its edges evenly instead of chewing them off.
A centre built for running miles
The middle of the AC838's tread is made of large, solid blocks, tied to the shoulders by ribs that run across the tyre. Big blocks move around less as they roll through the contact patch, and rubber that moves less wears less, which is exactly what you want on a vehicle that covers serious kilometres. They also keep the steering steady and predictable, so the van stays composed when the back is full.
Grip when the road is wet
Three full length grooves run right around the AC838 and carry water straight out from under the tread. Their edges are cut in a zigzag instead of a straight line, which gives the tread far more edge to bite with when you brake or pull away on a wet or greasy road. That matters most when there is a tonne in the back and the lights ahead go red.
A casing that carries the weight
What separates a commercial tyre from a car tyre is the casing. The AC838 is built on a reinforced carcass and rated for the higher pressures a loaded vehicle needs, which is what lets a tyre this size carry 600 kg to 1,215 kg. Every size carries two load ratings: the first for a single wheel at each corner, the second for twin wheels on one hub.
The numbers that matter on a work tyre
On a commercial tyre the load index is the number to buy on. Across the AC838 range it runs from 90 to 115 for a single wheel, which is 600 kg to 1,215 kg per tyre. Add up the four tyres and you want that total to clear your vehicle's gross weight with room to spare. Our vehicle load calculator does the sum for you.
Then set the pressure to suit the load you really carry. Commercial tyres are rated at high pressure for a full load, and most work vehicles spend a lot of their week empty: 40% of the light truck tyres we measure in our workshop are over inflated, against 6% under. The right pressure gives you the grip, the ride and the tread life the tyre was built to deliver. The detail is in our tyre pressure guide.
Read the label for your size, not for the pattern
Commercial tyres are built around load and casing strength first, and their European labels reflect that. Most AC838 sizes grade C for wet grip, with fuel at D or E and noise at 71 or 72 decibels. The 215/75R16 grades B for wet grip, and two of the trailer sizes, the 165R13 and 165R14, grade D.
Identical tread pattern, different casing, different result. That is why every rating on our product pages sits against the size you are buying and never against the pattern name.
Where the AC838 fits and where it does not
Good for
- Delivery and trade vans that run loaded every day
- Light trucks and work utes that stay on the road
- Trailers, boat trailers, horse floats and caravans
- Older vans and trailers that need a numeric size like 195R15
- Easy rotation, because a symmetric tyre can go on any corner
Which vehicles the AC838 fits
These are factory sizes for vans and light trucks we see a lot of, and the trailer sizes, matched to sizes we list in the AC838. It is a starting point, not a promise. Always read the size and the load index off your own sidewall or door placard before you order.
