No tyres found matching your search.

Try searching for brand name or pattern (e.g., "Anchee", "AC808")

The Tyre Kicker searches 17,700+ tyre patterns from 730+ brands to show you the specs that matter: EU label ratings, UTQG treadwear scores, pattern direction, and available sizes. Save tyres and compare them side-by-side to make informed decisions. Understanding these ratings helps you choose tyres that match your driving style — learn more in our complete tyre grading guide.

    EU Tyre Label Ratings

EU labels are displayed at point of sale and rate three key performance areas:

    A Fuel Efficiency

Rates rolling resistance (A–G). An A-rated tyre can save up to 7.5% fuel compared to a G-rated tyre. Lower rolling resistance = less energy wasted = better fuel economy.

    A Wet Grip

Rates braking distance on wet roads (A–G). The difference between A and G can be up to 18 metres at 80 km/h. Critical for New Zealand's frequent rain. See how wet grip affects stopping distance.

    dB External Noise

Measures pass-by noise in decibels. Ranges from ~67 dB (quiet) to 76+ dB (loud). Every 3 dB doubles perceived loudness. Affects both cabin comfort and roadside noise pollution.

    UTQG Ratings (US DOT)

UTQG ratings are moulded into the tyre sidewall and provide additional performance data:

    400 Treadwear

Comparative longevity score. 100 is baseline — a 400-rated tyre should last 4× longer. Ranges from ~100 (soft, grippy) to 800+ (hard, long-wearing). Higher isn't always better if you need grip.

    AA Traction

Wet braking ability rated AA, A, B, or C. Tested on wet asphalt and concrete. AA stops shortest; C stops longest. Most quality tyres are A or AA rated.

    A Temperature

    Heat resistance at sustained speed. A = tested above 185 km/h, B = 160–185 km/h, C = 130–160 km/h. Higher speeds generate more heat — important for motorway driving.

    Pattern Direction Types

    Directional

V-shaped grooves channel water outward. Must mount with arrow facing forward. Cannot cross-rotate — front-to-back only.

    Asymmetrical

Different inner/outer tread design. Marked "inside" and "outside". Can rotate to any position as long as outside faces out.

    Symmetrical

Uniform tread pattern throughout. Can mount in any direction. Most flexible for rotation — any position works.

    Quick Tips

    • Prioritise wet grip in New Zealand — we get a lot of rain. An A or B wet grip rating is recommended.
    • Match pattern types on the same axle for even handling. Mixing directional and symmetrical can cause unpredictable behaviour.
    • Check load ratings — when replacing a single tyre, stay within 2 load index points of your other tyres.
    • Higher treadwear ≠ better — soft compound tyres (lower treadwear) often grip better but wear faster.
    • Compare before buying — use the save and compare feature to see specs side-by-side.

    Width (205)

Tread width in millimetres. Wider tyres = more contact area but potentially more road noise and fuel use.

    Profile (55)

Sidewall height as % of width. 55 means sidewall is 55% of 205mm = 112.75mm. Lower = stiffer, sportier feel.

    Rim (16)

Wheel diameter in inches. Must match your wheel size exactly.

    Load Index (91)

Maximum weight capacity per tyre. 91 = 615kg. Must meet or exceed vehicle requirements.

    Speed Rating (V)

Maximum safe speed. V = 240 km/h. Must match or exceed vehicle's top speed capability.

    Common Speed Ratings

    Rating Max Speed Typical Use
    N 140 km/h Temporary spare tyres
    Q 160 km/h Winter/snow tyres
    S 180 km/h Family sedans, budget tyres
    T 190 km/h Family sedans, touring
    H 210 km/h Sport sedans, performance
    V 240 km/h Sports cars, performance vehicles
    W 270 km/h High-performance sports cars
    Y 300 km/h Supercars, exotic vehicles

    ⚠️ NZ WOF Requirements

For a Warrant of Fitness, tyres on the same axle must have the same size designation, carcass type (radial/bias), and similar tread pattern. Load and speed ratings must meet or exceed the vehicle manufacturer's specifications. The Tyre Kicker helps you check these specs before purchasing, but always verify compatibility with your vehicle's placard.

    Why Specs Matter

Tyre specifications aren't just numbers — they directly affect your safety, comfort, and running costs. A tyre with poor wet grip can add 18+ metres to your stopping distance in rain. Low treadwear ratings mean more frequent replacements. Wrong load ratings risk blowouts under heavy loads.

The Tyre Kicker aggregates data from manufacturer databases, EU regulatory filings, and US DOT records to give you a complete picture. Use the compare feature to evaluate trade-offs — a tyre might have excellent wet grip but poor fuel efficiency, or high treadwear but lower traction. Understanding these trade-offs helps you choose the right tyre for your needs, not just the cheapest option.
