Highway Terrain (H/T) tyres are purpose-built for SUVs, utes, and 4x4s that primarily travel on sealed roads. They feature a closed tread pattern (15-20% void ratio) optimised for quiet operation, fuel efficiency, wet grip, and long tread life up to 130,000km. Common sizes include 265/65R17, 265/60R18, and 225/65R17.

Choose H/T if 90%+ of your driving is on sealed roads. You'll get 3-10m shorter wet braking, half the cabin noise (65dB vs 70dB+), 3-5% better fuel economy, and 30-50% longer tread life. Choose A/T tyres only if you regularly drive rough gravel, farm tracks, or muddy conditions. Most SUV owners who fit A/T are paying for capability they never use.

Premium H/T tyres last 80,000-130,000km with proper rotation every 8,000-12,000km. This significantly exceeds A/T (50,000-100,000km) and M/T tyres (35,000-65,000km). Yes — H/T tyres handle well-maintained gravel roads adequately. For occasional gravel (farm visits, rural connectors, holiday access) they're fine. For frequent rough or rocky gravel, A/T offers better puncture resistance. If your gravel is smooth council-maintained metal, H/T works. If it's rough and rutted, consider A/T.
