The New Mutant RT Trail is Predator's rugged terrain, in five fitments on 17 and 20 inch wheels. More bite than an all terrain, less noise than a mud terrain, for the ute that tows in the week and goes bush at the weekend.
- The newest New Mutant, built to blend rugged terrain toughness with the mud grip of the X-MT.
- 10 ply on four of the five fitments, load rated up to 1,700 kg per tyre.
- A new off road compound for mud, snow and loose ground that still wears well on the seal.
- Two sidewalls on one tyre, with lugs that grab the sides of a rut.
- Living in the mud? The New Mutant X-MT is the mud terrain in the same family.
What the RT Trail is built to do
Be the one tyre for a truck that does both: the daily drive and the weekend trail.
Most off road tyres make you choose. An all terrain is quiet on the seal but runs out of bite in deep mud; a mud terrain grips anywhere off road but drones on the motorway. The RT Trail sits in between. Its medium void leaves enough open space for mud and stones to clear, with enough rubber on the road to stay steady and quiet at highway speed. A new off road compound grips in mud, snow and on loose ground, deep sipes cut across the blocks for the wet and the cold, and the casing is built with the strength of the X-MT. It comes in 265/70R17 123/120Q, 285/70R17 126/123Q, 33/12.5R17 120Q, 285/55R20 122/119S and 285/55R20 116T, and the 285/55R20 in both constructions.

How the RT Trail works
Every part of the RT Trail has a job to do. Here is what each one does for you, on the trail and on the way there.

The middle ground, done properly
The RT Trail is built on a medium void ratio: more open space between the blocks than an all terrain, less than a mud terrain. Off road, that space lets mud and stones clear out as the tyre turns, so the blocks come round clean to bite again. On the road, the extra rubber in contact keeps the truck steady and the steering sharp. It is the one tyre for a truck that does both, not a compromise that does neither.
A compound for the rough stuff
Predator built the RT Trail on an all new off road compound. It grips in mud, in snow and on loose gravel, where a highway compound skates across the top, and it is made to hold that grip for the long haul, with a long tread life and steady handling at highway speed. It is the difference between a tyre that is good off road for its first summer and one that stays good.
Sipes for the wet and the cold
Deep, thin cuts run across the RT Trail's tread blocks. Each one is a biting edge, and each one opens as the block flexes to grip the road, squeezing water out of the way. Together they give the tyre far more edges to hold with on a wet road, on wet rock and in snow and slush, where a solid block would slide. It is grip you feel most when you brake.
X-MT strength underneath
Under the tread, the RT Trail carries the construction of the X-MT, Predator's toughest mud tyre. Four of the five fitments are 10 ply light truck, load rated up to 1,700 kg a tyre, with a stiff casing that stands up to stones and sticks on a metal road and to the weight of a loaded tray or a trailer. It is built to take the same punishment as the mud tyre it is related to.
Lugs that grab the sides
The RT Trail's shoulders are cut with reinforced grooves, and its sidewalls carry a modern take on the classic off road lug. When the tyre drops into a rut or you air down in sand, the sidewall meets the ground, and those lugs give it biting edges to grab the sides and climb out. The two sidewalls carry different patterns, so you choose the look that faces out.
Quiet enough for every day
An off road tyre is only as good as its drive to work. Predator designed the RT Trail's tread pattern to keep road noise down, and the medium void keeps more rubber on the road than a mud tyre, so it runs steadier and quieter at open road speed. It is a daily driver that happens to be ready for the trail, not a trail tyre you put up with on the motorway.

Where the RT Trail fits and where it does not
Good for
- Utes, 4WDs and light trucks on 17 and 20 inch wheels that split their time between seal and trail
- Towing and carrying, on the 10 ply sizes
- Gravel, rock, mud and snow on the way to the hut or the ski field
- Drivers who want the off road look without a mud tyre's drone
Better served by another tyre
- Deep mud and rock crawling, every weekend. See the New Mutant X-MT
