📖 ANCHEE AC898 HEAVY-DUTY — COMPLETE NZ TRUCK TYRE GUIDE

The AC898 is Anchee's heavy-duty Light Truck pattern — designed for proper working trucks, not vans. Available in 7.00R16LT and 7.50R16LT — the traditional inch-based sizing still used on Japanese cab-over trucks like Dyna, Canter, Coaster, and Elf. Maximum load capacity 3,305kg per tyre — serious commercial duty.

🚛 HEAVY TRUCK TYRE TERMINOLOGY

7.00R16LT
Inch-Based Sizing
7.00 = section width (7 inches ≈ 200mm), R = radial, 16 = rim diameter (inches), LT = Light Truck. Older sizing still used on cab-over trucks.
12PR / 14PR
Ply Rating
Indicates load-carrying capacity. 12PR = 2,680kg max. 14PR = 3,305kg max. Higher ply = higher load capacity but stiffer ride.
Tube-Type
Requires Inner Tube
Many 7.00R16 and 7.50R16 rims are tube-type. Check your rims — tube-type requires inner tubes. We stock tubes separately.
122/118N
Dual Load Rating
Single/dual wheel capacity. 122 = 3,305kg (single wheel). 118 = 2,910kg (dual wheel). N = speed rating (140km/h max).

🔥 KEY FEATURES

The AC898 is built for serious load-carrying duty. Where the AC838 serves vans and trailers with modern metric sizes, the AC898 handles heavier trucks using traditional 7.00/7.50 inch sizing.

⚠ YOU NEED AC838 INSTEAD IF

  • You need modern metric sizes (195R15C etc)
  • Your tyre says something like "215/75R16C"
  • Lighter loads / trailers
  • → View AC838 Light Truck (34 sizes)
💡 How to tell which pattern you need: Check your current tyre sidewall. If it says "7.00R16" or "7.50R16" → you need the AC898. If it says something like "195R15C" or "215/75R16C" → you need the AC838. Still unsure? Contact us with a photo.

⚖️ AC898 vs AC838 — WHICH DO YOU NEED?

🚛 VEHICLE FITMENTS

🔧 How to verify your size: Check the sidewall of your current tyres — the size is moulded into the rubber. It will say "7.00R16LT" or "7.50R16LT". If your tyres show metric sizing like "215/75R16C", you need the AC838 instead.

❓ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (15)

The numbers refer to section width in inches. 7.00R16 has a 7.0-inch section width (about 200mm). 7.50R16 has a 7.5-inch section width (about 215mm) — wider and designed for heavier loads. The 7.50R16 14PR handles up to 3,305kg per tyre vs 2,680kg for the 7.00R16 12PR. Check your current tyre sidewall to confirm — they're not interchangeable without checking rim width.
It depends on your rims. Tube-type rims have a non-sealed bead seat and require inner tubes. Tubeless rims have a sealed bead. Most older trucks with 7.00R16/7.50R16 use tube-type rims. Look at your valve stem — if it's a rubber stem pushed through a hole, it's tube-type. If it's a metal stem with a nut, it's tubeless. Contact us with photos if unsure.
Yes, we stock inner tubes for both sizes. Contact us when ordering tyres and we'll add the correct tubes to your order. Always replace tubes when you replace tyres — old tubes are prone to failure. Common search terms: 750r16 tube, 700 16 tube, 7.50x16 tube.
PR = Ply Rating, which indicates load-carrying capacity. Originally it meant the number of cotton plies, but modern tyres use fewer stronger plies to achieve the same rating. 12PR on the 7.00R16 handles up to 2,680kg per tyre. 14PR on the 7.50R16 handles up to 3,305kg per tyre. Higher ply = higher load capacity but stiffer ride. Never use a lower ply rating than your vehicle requires.
Older models of these trucks typically use 7.00R16 or 7.50R16 tyres. Newer models often switched to metric sizing like 205/85R16C, 215/75R17.5, or 225/80R17.5. Check your existing tyre sidewall — if it shows metric sizing, you may need the AC838 or a different pattern. Contact us with your model year and we'll confirm fitment.
Those vans use modern metric sizing, not 7.00R16/7.50R16. Check out the Anchee AC838 Light Truck Collection — it has 34 sizes covering Hiace (185R14C, 195R14C, 195R15C), Transit (195/70R15C, 215/65R16C), Sprinter (205/75R16C, 215/75R16C), and more. Or browse our full Commercial Collection.
The dual rating shows load capacity for single wheel (first number) vs dual wheel (second number) fitment. 122/118N means: 3,305kg per tyre when fitted as a single wheel, 2,910kg per tyre when fitted as duals (side-by-side on rear axle). Duals run hotter due to reduced airflow, so the rating is slightly lower. The "N" is the speed rating (140km/h max).
Check your vehicle's door placard for the manufacturer's recommended pressure. Heavy truck tyres are typically run at 550-770 kPa (80-112 PSI) depending on load. The 7.50R16LT 14PR can handle up to 770 kPa (112 PSI). Higher pressures = higher load capacity. Never exceed the tyre's maximum rating. Always check pressures when cold. Use our Tyre Calculator for more info.
If your trailer uses 7.00R16 or 7.50R16 sizing, yes. However, most trailers in NZ use modern metric sizes like 185R14C, 195R14C, or 195R15C. For those sizes, see the AC838 Light Truck Collection. Check your trailer's existing tyres or rim specifications to confirm the correct size.
Tread life depends heavily on load, driving style, and maintenance. Commercial truck tyres typically last 50,000-100,000km. Proper inflation is critical — underinflation causes rapid shoulder wear and heat buildup. Overloading dramatically reduces tyre life. Regardless of tread, replace truck tyres every 5-7 years due to rubber degradation. Use our DOT Decoder to check your tyre age.
All Anchee tyres come with a 5-year manufacturer's warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. This doesn't cover normal wear, punctures, impacts, or damage from overloading/underinflation. Keep your receipt and we'll handle any warranty claims. See our full Anchee Brand Guide for complete warranty details.
Yes! Free delivery covers all North Island addresses including rural. South Island delivery is from $10/tyre, including rural areas. We use multiple courier networks to reach even the most remote farms. Most orders dispatch same-day and arrive within 1-3 business days depending on location.
Yes. All Anchee tyres we sell are E-marked and fully road legal in New Zealand. They meet all requirements for WOF inspection. The E-mark (ECE approval) indicates compliance with United Nations regulations for tyres.
The rim width is usually stamped on the rim itself, often on the inside barrel. 5.50F is the recommended rim for 7.00R16LT (5.5 inches wide). 6.00G is recommended for 7.50R16LT (6.0 inches wide). Using the wrong rim width affects handling and tyre wear. If you can't find the marking, measure the rim width between the bead seats.
No. Never mix different tyre sizes on the same axle. Mixing sizes across axles (e.g., 7.00R16 front, 7.50R16 rear) is sometimes done but not recommended without checking your vehicle's specifications. Different sizes have different rolling diameters which affects speedometer accuracy, drivetrain wear, and handling. Stick to the size specified by your vehicle manufacturer.
