Maxxis

Who makes Maxxis

A Taiwanese tyre maker with its own proving ground and a reputation built off road.

Cheng Shin Rubber started making bicycle tyres in Taiwan in 1967 and grew into one of the world's larger tyre companies, selling as Maxxis in more than 180 countries with more than 30,000 people and factories in Taiwan, China, Thailand, Vietnam and India. It tests on its own proving ground near Shanghai, opened in 2012 with a 4.5 km high speed track and separate wet and dry handling circuits, and it supplies original equipment tyres to Ford, GM and Toyota in the United States. In New Zealand the name was made on four wheel drives, where the Bighorn and the Razr range have been on utes and wagons for a generation, and the road tyres came after.

The Maxxis range we carry

Every pattern in one table, read from our live listings on 25 September 2026. The range is growing, so if the size you need is missing, ask.

UTQG is the American grading; where a pattern carries none, the European wet grip grade from the EU tyre registry is shown instead. The mud terrains are light truck tyres, graded on load rather than on wear, and the AT811 is not sold in Europe, so it has no label.

Bravo HP-M3: the long life highway tyre

The biggest Maxxis range we carry, and the one most SUV drivers end up on. Treadwear 700 on every size, the highest grade of any tyre we sell, a continuous centre rib for stability under a tall vehicle, and 70 decibels on most sizes. Wet grip is only average, C or D on the European label, and its own page says so. 23 sizes, 16 to 20 inch.

Premitra HP5: the performance road tyre

Maxxis's most independently tested passenger tyre, built around a full silica tread cap for wet braking, a centre rib for steering stability and four main grooves for water. A sound reduction bar in the tread and curved shoulder blocks keep it civilised. The tyre to look at for a car that is driven properly and driven in the rain. 33 sizes, 15 to 18 inch.

Victra Sport VS6: the ultra high performance tyre

A performance tyre with a nylon and aramid ply under the tread for a sharp, instant steering response, a wide flat profile that puts the most rubber on the road, and three wide grooves plus a narrower fourth to drain it. The SUV version carries the same design with the load ratings a heavier car needs. 1 size, 18 inch.

Victra Sport EV: the electric car tyre

An electric car is heavier than the petrol car it looks like, delivers all its torque from a standstill and has no engine to cover the tyre noise. The VS-EV answers with a compound blended for low rolling resistance and longer mileage, deep grooves and fine sipes for wet grip, and a closed shoulder that keeps tread noise out of the cabin. Wet grip A or B on every size we list. 3 sizes, 18 to 19 inch.

Razr AT-S AT781: the all terrain for a ute on the seal

The Razr AT-S is the all terrain for the ute that spends the week on the highway and the weekend on gravel. The tread pitch is arranged to quieten the hum, saw toothed circumferential grooves and angled lateral grooves clear water fast, and a new generation polymer with reinforced carbon black is there for tread life. Less aggressive than the AT811, and quieter for it. 31 sizes, 15 to 20 inch.

Razr AT811: the all terrain that leans off road

Maxxis's serious all terrain, with stepped tread block chamfers for stable braking on the road, multi angled sipes for extra bite off it, and reinforced sidewalls with wrap around shoulder blocks to shrug off rocks and stumps. A layer of cut and chip resistant rubber under the tread is there for the same reason. The choice when the road ends often. 55 sizes, 15 to 22 inch.

Bighorn MT764: the classic mud terrain

The Bighorn has been on New Zealand four wheel drives for a generation. Its multi edged Eagle Claw tread self cleans and bites, a reinforced casing with an extra nylon cap ply takes the punishment, and G shaped buttress reinforcements with stone ejectors protect against punctures. A dual stage tread cuts weight without cutting grip. 17 sizes, 14 to 18 inch.

Bravo MT753: the mud terrain for light commercials

A workhorse mud terrain in the 14 and 15 inch light commercial sizes, built to withstand punctures and damage on farm and forestry tracks. Open shoulder lugs clear mud and stones to keep the tyre gripping, and the heavy duty construction is made for hard packed clay and rough ground while staying usable on the highway between jobs. 2 sizes, 14 to 15 inch.
