What it is built to do

A highway touring tyre for SUVs and crossovers that is built to wear slowly, run quietly and stay stable at speed with a tall, heavy vehicle on top of it.

Maxxis lists the Bravo HP-M3 as a premium touring tyre for passenger cars, crossovers and SUVs, and in New Zealand it is sold squarely as an SUV tyre. The tread is a five rib symmetric pattern with a continuous centre rib, four wide circumferential grooves and a lattice of fine cross hatch sipes, and it carries a treadwear grade of 700, which is the highest of any tyre we sell. The HP in the name is not high performance: Maxxis files it as a touring tyre. It comes in 16 inch: 225/60R16; 17 inch: 215/55R17, 215/60R17, 225/60R17, 225/65R17, 235/60R17, 235/65R17; 18 inch: 225/50R18, 225/55R18, 225/60R18, 235/50R18, 235/55R18, 235/60R18, 245/60R18, 255/60R18; 19 inch: 225/45R19, 225/55R19, 235/55R19, 255/55R19; 20 inch: 245/50R20, 255/45R20, 255/55R20, 265/50R20.

The evidence, including the bad bit

Most tyres you can buy have never been in an instrumented comparison test, and the HP-M3 is one of them: Tyre Reviews holds no magazine test of it. Consumer Reports in the United States has put the 245/60R18 through its all season SUV test, but the scores sit behind their paywall, so we do not quote them. What is left is the grading, the owners and the warranty, and they tell a consistent story.

Wear is the strong side. Treadwear 700 is Maxxis's own grade against its own reference tyre, and it puts the HP-M3 above the 520 of our Anchee AC828 and the 480 of the AC818. Maxxis stands behind it with a mileage warranty in the United States of 70,000 miles on H rated sizes, 60,000 on V and 50,000 on W. That is a United States warranty, quoted here as evidence of intent, not as cover.

Grip is the average side. Every labelled size we list carries a C for wet grip except 255/60R18, 255/55R19 and 255/45R20, which carry a D. On Tyre Reviews, across ten owner ratings the tyre averages 64 percent: comfort scores highest at 7.6 out of 10, wet grip lowest at 5.7, and half of the owners say they would buy it again. Ten owners is a small sample and the site flags it as limited confidence, but the shape of the result matches the label.

The European label is measured size by size, so the same tread can grade differently on a different casing. These are the grades on our 23 listings on 22 September 2026. Five sizes carry no European label on our listings, four of them because they are not sold in Europe, which is a fact about the market, not the tyre.

Who makes it

Maxxis is the international brand of Cheng Shin Rubber of Taiwan, which began as a bicycle tyre maker in 1967 and now sells in more than 180 countries, employs more than 30,000 people and builds tyres in Taiwan, China, Thailand, Vietnam and India. It tests on its own proving ground near Shanghai, opened in 2012 at a cost of about 150 million US dollars, with a 4.5 km high speed track and separate wet and dry handling circuits, and it supplies original equipment tyres to Ford, GM and Toyota in the United States. That is a bigger company than sits behind most tyres at this price, and it is why an HP-M3 costs more than our house brands.
