The short answer

We are a Te Puke warehouse, not an Auckland shop, and that is the whole point. No city lease sitting on the price, 15,000 tyres bought by the container, and free delivery to urban Auckland with no minimum order. Cheaper than a shopfront in the city can manage, and we have been sending them north every month since 2020.

What we see

Motorway commuting wears tyres its own way

Auckland driving is easier on tread than most people assume, and harder on everything else.

🛣 High steady mileage

Motorway commuting is the kindest driving there is for tread life, and the least forgiving of an alignment fault, because the wear runs on for hours at a time.

🪨 Road surface

Potholes and patched seal damage the sidewall and the rim rather than the tread, which is why the damage is usually invisible until it is not.

🚒 Queues

Stop-start traffic heats tyres without airflow. Check pressures cold, not after a commute, or you will set them low.

The honest bit

Who fits them once they land in Auckland?

Not us, and that is the one real downside of buying from out of town. Almost any shop will fit tyres they did not sell, usually $20 to $40 a tyre. Ring first. On a full set the saving covers it comfortably; on a single tyre it might not, and we would rather say so than let you find out.

What we actually ship to Auckland

From our own order records. Auckland orders skew larger than people expect, which is where the price gap is worth the freight.

What we have actually done in Auckland

We have been sending tyres to Auckland every month since 2020. The orders skew larger than most people would guess for a city, with 4WD and ute sizes leading, which is where the price gap is big enough to be worth the freight. Everything goes out from one warehouse rather than a distribution network, so what the website says is in stock is genuinely on the floor in Te Puke.

The whole reason a cheap tyre from Te Puke makes sense in Auckland is that there is no distributor margin and no city retail lease inside the price. It starts at $70.

Coverage

Where we deliver in Auckland

We deliver to any address in Auckland. Your house, your workplace, a depot, or straight to whichever mechanic or tyre shop is going to fit them. Put their address in at checkout and give them a call so they know it is coming.

Free urban delivery includes the isthmus and CBD, the North Shore up to Albany and Silverdale, the west through Henderson and Massey, the east through Howick and Botany, and the south through Manukau, Manurewa, Papakura and Pukekohe, and that list is examples rather than a boundary. Semi-rural addresses on the fringes are covered at a flat rate, shown before you pay.

SH2 to the Bombays and up SH1, or SH29 over the Kaimai and SH1 north. About 245km either way.

One question we get

Why buy tyres from 245km away?

Because we import our own containers and run a warehouse instead of a city shopfront, so there is no distributor margin and no retail lease on the price. On a set of four that gap is comfortably larger than any fitting fee at your end.

Taylor Houghton has spent his working life in the tyre trade, beginning in his father's tyre business at the age of five and handling import containers through his school years. He developed Tyre Dispatch, the retail arm of Traction Tyres, and now manages it alongside the Traction Tyres warehouse in Te Puke, with responsibility for buying and brand selection. He holds no ownership interest in either business.

Both brands the company distributes exclusively in New Zealand, Anchee and Predator, were his selections, each assessed on factory accreditation, compound composition and independent test data rather than name recognition. More than 100,000 Anchee tyres have since been sold here, and both brands hold five star review averages.

The guides, calculators and tools on this site are his own work, as is the workshop dataset behind them, which covers 1,700+ documented tyre inspections and 45,000+ photographs and represents more than a thousand hours, the majority outside business hours. He is the petitioner to Parliament for mandatory tyre performance labelling and minimum wet-grip standards in New Zealand, and appeared in the launch video for Tyrewise, the national tyre stewardship scheme.

Photography, measurements and advice on this site are first-hand; where a figure comes from elsewhere, it is attributed.
