Tyres Delivered to the South Island
We deliver tyres to the South Island and we are not going to pretend it is the same as the North. It is not free, it is a flat rate. It takes three to seven business days rather than one to three. There is no drive option and no fitting from us. What does not change is the price of the tyre.
The whole island of road between us and you
Order before 12pm on a weekday and it leaves the same day, tracked the whole way. Urban South Island is three to seven business days, rural five to ten.
You buy bigger tyres than we are used to
The South Island order mix is not like anywhere in the North, and it is not close.
🚚 Farm and station work
285/75R16 and 315/75R16 lead our South Island orders. Up here those are specialist sizes. Down there they are the everyday ones.
❄ Real winters
Ice, grit and chains are ordinary in a way they are not in the Bay of Plenty. Compound and wet grip matter more, and so does having tread left in August.
🏔 Distance from help
The gap between towns is the whole argument for a decent spare and a tyre with sidewall left in it.
Who fits them once they land in the South Island?
Not us, and that is the one real downside of buying from out of town. Almost any shop will fit tyres they did not sell, usually $20 to $40 a tyre. Ring first. On a full set the saving covers it comfortably; on a single tyre it might not, and we would rather say so than let you find out.
What the South Island actually orders
From our own records, 854 tyres across 92 sizes. This is the most 4WD-heavy mix we ship anywhere.

450 orders, 47 towns, and it grows every year
The South Island is not a market we went looking for, and it is now close to the size of Auckland in our order record. It has grown in every year but one since 2020. Nobody down there has driven past our workshop, which means every one of those orders was placed on price and stock alone.
The freight is the honest cost of being 900km away. The tyre still starts at $70, and on the 4WD sizes the South Island buys most, the gap is comfortably wider than the flat rate.
Where we deliver in the South Island
Everywhere. Christchurch, Dunedin, Invercargill, Nelson, Blenheim, Queenstown, Timaru, Ashburton, Greymouth, Hokitika, Westport, Motueka, Picton, Wanaka and another thirty-odd towns we have sent tyres to since 2020.
Urban addresses carry the flat South Island rate. Rural and RD addresses carry the rural rate and take longer. Both are shown at checkout before you pay, and neither is a surprise added afterwards.
By courier the whole way, tracked from Te Puke to your door.
Why would I buy tyres from the North Island?
Because the freight is a flat rate and the tyre is cheaper by more than the freight, particularly on the 4WD sizes the South Island buys most. If that is not true for your size, buy locally. We would rather tell you that than take the order.

Taylor Houghton
Manager, Tyre Dispatch · Warehouse Manager, Traction Tyres
Taylor Houghton has spent his working life in the tyre trade, beginning in his father's tyre business at the age of five and handling import containers through his school years. He developed Tyre Dispatch, the retail arm of Traction Tyres, and now manages it alongside the Traction Tyres warehouse in Te Puke, with responsibility for buying and brand selection. He holds no ownership interest in either business.
Both brands the company distributes exclusively in New Zealand, Anchee and Predator, were his selections, each assessed on factory accreditation, compound composition and independent test data rather than name recognition. More than 100,000 Anchee tyres have since been sold here, and both brands hold five star review averages.
The guides, calculators and tools on this site are his own work, as is the workshop dataset behind them, which covers 1,700+ documented tyre inspections and 45,000+ photographs and represents more than a thousand hours, the majority outside business hours. He is the petitioner to Parliament for mandatory tyre performance labelling and minimum wet-grip standards in New Zealand, and appeared in the launch video for Tyrewise, the national tyre stewardship scheme.
Photography, measurements and advice on this site are first-hand; where a figure comes from elsewhere, it is attributed.
