📖 ANCHEE AC838 LIGHT TRUCK — COMPLETE NZ COMMERCIAL TYRE GUIDE

The AC838 is Anchee's Light Truck (LT) pattern — purpose-built for vehicles that carry loads. Whether you're running a delivery van, towing a boat, or carting livestock, the AC838 delivers commercial-grade durability at a fraction of premium prices.

🚛 LIGHT TRUCK TYRE TERMINOLOGY

LT
Light Truck
Tyres designed for load-carrying vehicles — vans, utes, trailers. Stronger construction than passenger (P-metric) tyres. The AC838 is an LT tyre.
C-Rating
Commercial Grade
The "C" suffix (e.g. 195R15C) indicates commercial/light truck construction with reinforced sidewalls and higher load capacity.
Ply Rating
Load Capacity Index
6PR, 8PR, 10PR, 12PR — higher ply = heavier loads. Modern tyres use equivalent construction, not actual ply layers.
Dual Rating
Single/Dual Fitment
Load ratings like "106/104R" show capacity for single wheel (106) vs dual wheel (104) fitment on trucks.

📊 PLY RATINGS EXPLAINED

The AC838 is available in 6PR, 8PR, and 12PR variants. Higher ply ratings handle heavier loads but ride slightly firmer. Choose based on your actual load requirements — don't over-spec unnecessarily.

Ply Rating Load Range Max PSI Best For
6PR C 55 PSI Light vans, empty trailers, caravans
8PR D 65 PSI Loaded vans, boat trailers, horse floats ⭐ Most Common
12PR E 95 PSI Heavy commercial, dual wheels, max loads
🎯 Quick Selection Guide:
6PR: Caravan, light trailer, Hiace (light loads)
8PR: Boat trailer, horse float, Transit/Sprinter (normal loads) — most popular choice
12PR: Commercial fleet, heavy equipment, dual-wheel trucks
⚠️ Never underrate your tyres. Always match or exceed your vehicle's factory ply rating. Check the placard on your door jamb or consult your vehicle manual. Underrated tyres can fail catastrophically under load.

🎯 COMMON APPLICATIONS

The AC838 fits a wide range of load-carrying applications. Here are the most common uses and recommended sizes:

🛠️
Equipment Trailers
195R15C • 215/75R16C • 225/65R16C
💡 Trailer Tyre Tip: Trailer tyres work harder than you might think — they're always loaded, often sit for long periods, and take abuse from potholes and ramps. LT/C-rated tyres like the AC838 are purpose-built for this duty cycle. Don't cheap out on trailer tyres — a blowout at highway speed with a loaded trailer is extremely dangerous.

❓ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

LT = Light Truck. These tyres are built with stronger construction than passenger (P-metric) tyres — reinforced sidewalls, stiffer carcass, higher load capacity. C-rating = Commercial grade. The "C" suffix (e.g. 195R15C) indicates the tyre meets commercial vehicle standards. Both terms indicate the tyre is designed for load-carrying vehicles like vans, utes, and trailers.
Match or exceed your vehicle's factory spec. Check your door jamb placard for the original tyre rating. As a guide: 6PR for light loads (empty trailers, caravans), 8PR for normal commercial use (loaded vans, boat trailers, horse floats — most common), 12PR for heavy duty (commercial fleet, dual wheels, max loads). Never go below the factory rating.
Not recommended. Passenger tyres have roughly 10% lower load capacity and aren't designed for the constant-load duty cycle of trailers. They also have softer sidewalls that can flex under load, generating heat and potentially failing. LT/C-rated tyres like the AC838 are purpose-built for trailer use — the reinforced construction handles the stress of loading, unloading, and sitting stationary for extended periods.
The dual rating shows load capacity for single wheel (first number) vs dual wheel (second number) fitment. 106/104R means: 950kg per tyre when fitted as a single wheel, 900kg per tyre when fitted as duals (side-by-side). Duals run hotter due to reduced airflow, so the rating is slightly lower. Most vans and trailers use single fitment — use the first number.
Check your trailer's placard or manual for the recommended pressure. As a general guide, LT tyres on trailers are typically run at 50-65 PSI when loaded. Higher pressures (within the tyre's max rating) help reduce heat buildup and improve tread life. Never exceed the pressure rating moulded on the tyre sidewall. Always check pressures when cold — hot tyres read higher.
Trailer tyres often wear out from age before tread. UV exposure and ozone degrade rubber even when stationary. We recommend replacing trailer tyres every 5-7 years regardless of tread depth. Check sidewalls for cracking, bulging, or weather checking. The DOT date code (4 digits, e.g. "2523" = week 25, 2023) tells you when the tyre was manufactured.
Yes — the AC838 covers the most common van sizes. Hiace: 185R14C, 195R14C, 195R15C, 215/65R16C. Transit: 195/70R15C, 215/65R16C, 215/75R16C. Sprinter: 205/75R16C, 215/75R16C, 225/65R16C. Check your door jamb for the exact size, or contact us with your model year and we'll confirm fitment.
