The short answer

The MT200 is Joyroad's mud terrain, in six sizes on 15 to 17 inch wheels. Deep blocks, wide gaps and 14.6 mm of tread, for the ute or 4WD that leaves the seal.

What the MT200 is built to do

Keep a ute or 4WD moving where the ground gives way: deep mud, soft sand and rutted tracks.

Joyroad built the MT200 for unsealed and difficult ground. Its big tread blocks and the wide gaps between them bite into mud and sand, shoulder blocks of different shapes step out to the edge of the tread for grip and steering in the ruts, and 14.6 mm of tread gives the blocks a long life to work with. It comes in 31x10.5R15 109Q, 33x12.5R15 108Q, 245/75R16 120N, 265/75R16 123N, 285/75R16 122Q and 265/70R17 121Q.

Every size is light truck Four sizes are speed rated Q (160 km/h) and two are N (140 km/h). Check that the load index meets the figure on your door placard before you order, and keep both tyres on an axle the same.

How the MT200 works

Every part of the MT200 has a job to do. Here is what each one does for you, in the mud and on the way there.

Grip where the seal ends

The MT200 is made for unpaved and difficult ground, and it shows in the tread: big blocks with wide gaps between them. The blocks dig into mud and sand for the ute to pull against, and the gaps give the mud somewhere to go, so the tread keeps biting instead of packing up. On a greasy clay track, a soft beach or a rutted farm race, that is the difference between moving and digging in.

Shoulders that steer

The MT200's shoulder blocks come in different shapes and step out past the edge of the tread, and Joyroad put them there for handling. In a rut they give the tyre an edge to hold a line against, on a loose surface they help it turn in, and when you air down in sand they put more rubber onto the ground. They also wrap over the shoulder to take the scrapes on a rocky track.

Deep tread, long life

Joyroad's catalogue gives every MT200 size 14.6 mm of tread when new, close to twice the 7.8 mm of our Sport RX6 road tyre. That depth keeps the blocks aggressive as the tyre wears, and it is a lot of rubber to use: 13.1 mm before the 1.5 mm legal minimum. Rotate the set and keep the pressures right, and it keeps biting for a long time.

Built to carry

Every MT200 is light truck construction: 10 ply in 245/75R16, 265/75R16 and 265/70R17, 8 ply in the 285/75R16 and 6 ply in the 31x10.5R15 and 33x12.5R15. Across the range the load index runs to 123, or 1,550 kilograms a tyre, and Joyroad rates the 10 ply sizes to 80 psi. That is what a loaded tray, a canopy or a trailer needs under it, and a stiff casing is what stops a stick pushing through the sidewall on a bush track.

What is a mud terrain tyre?

The most off road of the tyre types: big tread blocks with wide gaps between them, so mud, stones and sand clear out as the tyre turns and the blocks keep finding something to bite. The trade is on the seal, where a mud terrain is louder and less sharp than an all terrain. It suits a vehicle that spends real time off the road. Our mud terrain guide covers the choice in full.

Is the Joyroad MT200 any good?

Yes, and the people running them say so: one owner calls it the best mud terrain for the price, another a very good long lasting tyre. Every size is light truck construction, up to 10 ply and load rated up to 1,550 kg per tyre, with 14.6 mm of tread when new. We import Joyroad ourselves and fit the MT200 in our own Te Puke workshop.

Will it be loud on the road?

It is a mud terrain, so it hums more on the seal than a highway tyre does. For a ute that spends most of the week on the seal and goes bush at the weekend, the Adventure A/T is the quieter choice.
Ratings and sizes

What do 6, 8 and 10 ply mean?

A strength grade for the casing, not a count of layers. The higher the ply rating, the heavier the load the tyre carries at a higher pressure, and the better it stands up to a stone or a stick through the sidewall. The MT200 is 10 ply in 245/75R16, 265/75R16 and 265/70R17, 8 ply in the 285/75R16 and 6 ply in the 31x10.5R15 and 33x12.5R15. Our load rating guide explains the numbers.

What are the 31 and 33 inch sizes?

Light truck sizes written in inches: a 31x10.5R15 stands about 31 inches tall and 10.5 inches wide on a 15 inch wheel, and a 33x12.5R15 about 33 inches tall and 12.5 wide. They are the big, wide mud tyres for a 4WD with the clearance to take them, often lifted. Check the fit before you order, and use our tyre size calculator to compare against the size you run now.

What load and speed rating do I need?

Match or beat the figures on your door placard, and take the load seriously if you tow or carry. Across the MT200 the load index runs from 108 to 123, which is 1,000 kg to 1,550 kg per tyre. Which way round does it go?

Any way. The MT200 tread is symmetrical and not directional, so a tyre can go on any corner and be rotated front to back or across the vehicle. Our tread pattern guide shows how to tell the types apart.

Go by where the vehicle spends its time. The MT200 is the mud terrain, for mud, sand and the rough tracks. The Adventure A/T is the all terrain, for the week on the seal with gravel and farm tracks at the weekend. Tell us the vehicle and what it does and we will say which.

Can you fit them for me?

Yes. Every size has a fitted and balanced option at our Te Puke workshop, and big mud tyres are worth balancing properly. Choose it on the tyre's own page, then book a time online.

Zhongyi Rubber Co., Ltd., in Guangrao County, Shandong, China: the maker named on every Joyroad entry in the European Union's tyre label registry. We import the range ourselves, by the container, and the whole of it is on our Joyroad page.
