Tyres in Whakatane
Whakatane is one of the places we send tyres to most often, most months since 2020. Delivery is free to urban addresses, and it is about an hour by road if you would rather drive over and have them fitted while you wait. Most Whakatane orders are full sets, which is where a cheaper tyre stops being loose change.
If you searched for cheap tyres near me from Whakatane, we are an hour by road, which is why most people here have them delivered instead.
Delivered, or drive over and wait
📦 Have them delivered
Free to urban Whakatane addresses. Order before 12pm on a weekday and it ships the same day, tracked, usually arriving next business day.
Browse tyres →🚗 Drive over and wait
About an hour via SH2 through Matata. Fitted and balanced from $35 a tyre if you are coming this way anyway. Worth booking so the tyres are ready when you arrive.
Book a fitting →Town roads and rural roads in the same week
Whakatane vehicles do two jobs, and a tyre set up for one is compromised on the other.
🌿 Sealed and unsealed together
Town driving and rural access want different pressures, and you cannot have both. Most people run the town pressure and take the gravel damage.
🚚 Distance
Longer average trips mean heat and highway wear. That is kinder on tread than town driving, and harder on anything already damaged.
🌊 Coastal exposure
Ohope and the coast bring the same salt problem as anywhere on the water: valve stems and rim finishes first, the tyre itself much later.

Why Whakatane buys cheaper tyres from Te Puke
Whakatane is one of the places we send tyres most often, and has been since 2020. The mix leans further towards 4WD and ute sizes than any of the city pages, which is what you would expect from a district that is half town and half farm. A reasonable number of Whakatane customers also drive across and have them fitted here while they are in Te Puke anyway.
Most Whakatane orders are full sets, and on four tyres the price gap is what makes either the drive or the wait worth it. The range starts at $70. Budget does not have to mean unbranded, and none of ours are.

Free urban delivery includes Whakatane, Ohope, Coastlands, Awatapu, Edgecumbe, Taneatua, Matata and Thornton, and that list is examples rather than a boundary. Rural and RD addresses across the Rangitaiki Plains are covered at a flat rate, shown before you pay.
SH2 west through Matata and Pukehina, about an hour to the workshop.
Is an hour too far to drive for tyres?
For most people, yes, and that is why delivery is free. It is worth it if you are already coming through Te Puke, or if you want the fitting done the same day rather than arranging it separately at your end.

Tyre Dispatch is the trading name of Traction Tyres Limited, NZBN 9429033075297, 31 Station Road, Te Puke.
Taylor Houghton
Manager, Tyre Dispatch · Warehouse Manager, Traction Tyres
Taylor Houghton has spent his working life in the tyre trade, beginning in his father's tyre business at the age of five and handling import containers through his school years. He developed Tyre Dispatch, the retail arm of Traction Tyres, and now manages it alongside the Traction Tyres warehouse in Te Puke, with responsibility for buying and brand selection. He holds no ownership interest in either business.
Both brands the company distributes exclusively in New Zealand, Anchee and Predator, were his selections, each assessed on factory accreditation, compound composition and independent test data rather than name recognition. More than 100,000 Anchee tyres have since been sold here, and both brands hold five star review averages.
The guides, calculators and tools on this site are his own work, as is the workshop dataset behind them, which covers 1,700+ documented tyre inspections and 45,000+ photographs and represents more than a thousand hours, the majority outside business hours. He is the petitioner to Parliament for mandatory tyre performance labelling and minimum wet-grip standards in New Zealand, and appeared in the launch video for Tyrewise, the national tyre stewardship scheme.
Photography, measurements and advice on this site are first-hand; where a figure comes from elsewhere, it is attributed.
