Every tyre we handle in Te Puke is measured, photographed and documented. This hub indexes the milestone research reports, methods and aggregate data built from that inspection programme, published permanently, with clear denominators and honest limitations.

Milestone 01 · LiveThe Workshop Tyre Report: First 1,500 Inspections
Tread depth, WoF screening status, defect locations, tyre age, speed ratings and certification marks across the first 1,500 documented workshop inspections, with international benchmarking against UK and German tyre-condition research.
Entries 1,501–2,000: New Cohort and Milestone Comparison
The next 500-entry cohort will be reported both on its own and against the first milestone, showing which distributions remain stable and which shift. Pre-specified analyses include tyre age versus cracking and condition, and legal-limit tread bucketing.
Focused studies
Alongside the milestone reports, these studies take a single question and answer it in depth from the same measured programme. Each is written and being prepared for publication now.
Tyre Pressures and Inflation Wear
Every worn tyre carries a record of the pressure it ran at. Reading the wear shape across 1,149 tyres shows how common under- and over-inflation really are, and how the fault reverses completely on utes and vans running empty.
Load Ratings and Load Capacity
The load index and speed rating define what a tyre may do. Across 1,540 tyres they trade against each other, expose Extra Load as the quiet default of the modern wheel, and reveal one widely used marking, ply rating, that means almost nothing for capacity.
Tread Pattern Direction
Tread patterns come in three architectures, decided almost entirely by the wheel. The choice predicts how a tyre wears, which edge goes first, and quietly removes the cheapest remedy for uneven wear from the tyres most likely to need it.
How this research is run
Each report in the series is a descriptive observational study of a workshop-presenting sample: the tyres that reach a working New Zealand tyre business. Every percentage is published with its field-specific denominator, defect tags are reported as overlapping observations rather than summed, and each milestone cohort is frozen so its figures never silently change. The reports state plainly what the data cannot show: they are not national fleet estimates, and no brand failure rankings are made.
