What is ISO 17025?

ISO 17025 is the international standard for testing and calibration laboratories. When a tyre manufacturer has ISO 17025 accreditation, it means an independent body has verified that their testing equipment, procedures, and staff produce accurate, reliable results.

Without this certification, manufacturers self-declare that their tyres meet specifications. There's no independent verification that their testing equipment is calibrated correctly or that their procedures follow international standards.

Why This Matters For You

When you buy tyres from an ISO 17025 certified manufacturer, you can trust that the specifications on the sidewall — load rating, speed rating, dimensions — have been verified by accredited testing, not just claimed by the manufacturer.

Budget brand with all certs

Among budget-priced tyres available in New Zealand, Anchee stands alone with complete ISO 17025 + ISO 14001 + OHSAS 18001 + IATF 16949 certification — plus the Yokohama technology partnership that no other budget brand can match.

Why Environmental Certification Matters

ISO 14001 certified factories have documented procedures for managing emissions, waste, and resource usage. It's not just about being "green" — factories with proper environmental controls typically have better overall quality management.

Environmental impact of tyre manufacturing

Only 3 of 19 budget brands in our comparison have ISO 14001 environmental certification. Anchee's parent company Xingyuan operates under the philosophy of "Low carbon, Green, Efficient, Environmental Friendly."

Frequently Asked Questions

Quality varies dramatically between Chinese tyre brands. All tyres sold in NZ must meet DOT/ECE safety standards, so they're legal to use. But the real question is: how thoroughly were they tested? Brands with ISO 17025 accredited labs (like Anchee) have their testing verified to international standards. See our certification guide for details.
ISO 17025 is the gold standard. It means the manufacturer's testing lab has been independently verified to produce accurate, reliable results. Only 4 of the 19 brands in our comparison have this certification.
Brand recognition drives pricing more than quality metrics. Kumho and Maxxis have spent decades building brand awareness through motorsport sponsorships and marketing. Anchee invests in certifications and quality assurance instead of advertising budgets.
Yes. All tyres in our comparison meet legal standards for New Zealand roads. WOF requirements focus on tread depth (minimum 1.5mm), visible damage, and correct fitment — not brand or certification level.
Anchee tyres are manufactured by Xingyuan, which has more than 10 years of Yokohama OEM experience and quality control systems supported by Yokohama. Xingyuan is ranked 7th in China by the China Rubber Industry Association. Learn more on our Anchee guide page.

ISO 14001 certified factories have documented procedures for managing emissions, waste, and resource usage. Only 3 of 19 budget brands have this certification. Xingyuan (Anchee's manufacturer) operates under a "Low carbon, Green, Efficient, Environmental Friendly" philosophy. See our full ISO 14001 explanation.
DOT is the US Department of Transportation standard; ECE is the European standard. Both confirm the tyre meets basic safety requirements. New Zealand accepts both. ECE tests are generally more comprehensive. All 19 brands in our comparison have at least one of these certifications. Learn more in our DOT vs ECE guide.
Check your door jamb sticker or current tyres for size (e.g. 205/55R16). Use our Tyre Kicker search tool to find tyres by size or vehicle, or our Tyre Calculator to compare sizes. You can also request a quote and we'll recommend the right tyres.
All tyres sold in NZ meet minimum safety standards for highway use. However, stopping distances vary between brands — use our Braking Simulator to see the difference. Brands with ISO 17025 testing provide more reliable performance data. For highway-focused driving, see our Highway Terrain guide.
