🏅 Anchee — Quality & Credentials
ISO 17025 certification, Yokohama technology partnership, factory standards, and what makes Anchee different from other budget tyre brands sold in New Zealand.
Why Anchee stands out from other budget brands:
- ISO 17025 laboratory certification — same testing standard as Michelin, Continental, and Bridgestone
- 10+ year Yokohama partnership — technology transfer from the world's 7th largest tyre manufacturer
- EU B-grade wet grip on most patterns — stops 3–6 metres shorter than C-rated competitors at 80 km/h
- UTQG ratings 420–520 — 4.2–5.2× longer life than the reference tyre
Our NZ track record: 13,700+ Anchee tyres sold | 98% five-star reviews | Customers regularly report 65,000–70,000 km+ tread life on AC808 and AC828 models.
Not directly manufactured by Yokohama, but Anchee has a 10+ year technology partnership with Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. — founded in 1917 and one of the world's largest tyre manufacturers.
What the partnership means in practice:
- Access to Yokohama's design methodologies and compound formulations
- Shared testing protocols and quality control systems
- Technology transfer for silica compound development (better wet grip, lower rolling resistance)
Anchee also operates their own ISO 17025 certified testing laboratory — the same accreditation held by premium brands. This isn't a badge-sharing exercise; it's genuine technology exchange backed by independent verification.
ISO/IEC 17025 is the international standard for testing and calibration laboratory competence. It's the highest quality certification a tyre testing facility can achieve.
What it proves:
- The laboratory meets rigorous international quality requirements
- Testing methods are validated, accurate, and reproducible
- Results are traceable to international measurement standards
- The lab undergoes regular independent audits
Why this matters for you: When Anchee publishes a UTQG treadwear rating of 520 or an EU wet grip grade of B, those numbers come from a lab with the same accreditation as Michelin's and Continental's testing facilities. The data is trustworthy — not marketing fluff.
Many budget tyre brands from China lack this certification entirely. It's the single biggest differentiator between Anchee and generic imports.
The E-mark (ECE mark) is a European certification proving the tyre meets UN ECE Regulation 30 (passenger) or Regulation 54 (commercial). New Zealand accepts E-marked tyres under the NZTA Land Transport Rule: Tyres and Wheels 2001.
What this means practically:
- Every size has been independently tested and approved
- The tyre meets minimum standards for strength, endurance, and speed capability
- No WOF inspector can fail a tyre purely based on the Anchee brand
You'll find the E-mark stamped on the sidewall — usually a circled "E" followed by a country code number.
EU Tyre Labelling (Regulation 2020/740) grades wet braking performance from A (best) to E (worst):
- A: Shortest wet stopping distance — typically premium-tier only
- B: Anchee's primary grade — stops 3–6 m shorter than C at 80 km/h
- C: Most budget brands sit here
- D–E: Significantly longer stopping distances
The difference between B and C rated tyres at 80 km/h is approximately one car length — that can be the difference between stopping safely and a rear-end collision on a wet NZ motorway.
Real-world context: NZ receives 600–1,600 mm of rainfall annually depending on region. Wet grip isn't optional — it's the single most safety-critical tyre performance metric for Kiwi drivers.
EU label ratings are published per tyre model, but they can vary by individual size within the same model. A 205/55R16 AC808 may have slightly different ratings than a 185/65R15 AC808 because the internal construction differs.
Where to check:
- Our product pages include EU label data where available
- The official EU EPREL tyre database has every certified size
- Contact us and we'll look up the exact ratings for any Anchee size
📧 Contact Us for specific size ratings
Each tyre size has different internal construction even within the same model family. Factors that change between sizes:
- Carcass plies: Wider tyres often have additional reinforcement layers
- Tread compound volume: More rubber in larger sizes affects rolling resistance
- Contact patch shape: Different width-to-height ratios change how rubber meets road
- Belt package: Steel belt configuration varies to suit different load requirements
This is normal across all tyre brands — a Michelin Pilot Sport 4 in 225/45R17 will have different EU ratings than the same model in 255/35R19. Anchee publishes size-specific data because their ISO 17025 lab tests each construction individually.
How to verify authenticity:
- DOT code on sidewall: Contains the factory code — genuine Anchee codes trace back to their certified facilities
- E-mark certification: Stamped into the sidewall mould, not a sticker
- Consistent branding: Correct spelling, font, and logo placement
- Warranty registration: Only genuine tyres purchased through authorised channels qualify for full warranty
Risk of parallel imports: Some sellers source tyres through grey-market channels. These may be genuine but often lack local warranty backing, proper storage conditions during shipping, or correct speed/load variants for the NZ market.

📋 Anchee — Model Guide
All 17 models across 520+ sizes — HP, UHP, SUV, LT, EV, run-flat, and winter. Which Anchee fits your vehicle and driving style.
17 models across 520+ sizes — the full Anchee range:
| Category | Models | Rim Sizes |
|---|---|---|
| High Performance | AC708, AC808, AC218 | 13"–16" |
| Ultra High Performance | AC818, AC718 | 16"–22" |
| SUV | AC828 | 15"–22" |
| Light Truck | AC838, AC858, AC898 | 12"–20" |
| Mud Terrain | GRANDTRAC MT1 | 15"–17" |
| EV (Electric) | EP Founder CE101 | 17"–21" |
| Run-Flat | TITAN ACF01 | 16"–20" |
| Winter | AC868, ARCTIC W6, W-8, W-9 | 13"–21" |
For pure wet grip performance, the ranking based on EU wet braking grades and tread design:
- 🥇 AC818 (UHP) — Asymmetric tread with aggressive lateral grooves. Designed for maximum grip in both wet and dry. Best choice for performance-focused drivers. 16"–22"
- 🥈 AC718 (UHP) — Optimised tread formula specifically for hydroplaning resistance. 17"–20"
- 🥉 AC808 (HP) — Four linear grooves for superior drainage. Silicon formula optimises wet grip. The all-rounder. 13"–16"
For SUVs: The AC828 has four longitudinal grooves and a wide contact area — excellent drainage for a heavier vehicle.
NZ context: Auckland gets ~1,250 mm of rain annually, Wellington ~1,200 mm. Wet grip should be your #1 priority if you drive in these regions. An EU B-rated Anchee stops a full car length shorter than a C-rated budget tyre at 80 km/h in the wet.
NZ's rough chipseal amplifies tyre noise significantly compared to European asphalt. The quietest Anchee models:
- 🥇 EP Founder CE101 (EV) — Features a foam noise-dampening layer inside the tyre cavity. Purpose-built for cabin silence. Works on any car, not just EVs
- 🥈 AC808 — Specific noise-reduction technology with decreased tread block rigidity to minimise road surface interaction noise
- 🥉 AC218 — Multi-arc tread design reduces pattern noise. Big block design absorbs vibration
For SUVs: The AC828 uses optimised pitch arrangement specifically to reduce noise — impressively quiet for an SUV tyre.
Tip: NZ chipseal roads are worst for noise in the 14"–16" tyre range. If noise is your priority and you drive a sedan, the AC808 or CE101 in your size will make the biggest difference.
Based on UTQG treadwear ratings (higher = longer life):
| Model | UTQG Treadwear | Estimated Life | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| AC828 (SUV) | 520 | 70,000+ km | SUVs, crossovers |
| AC858 (LT) | 520 | 65,000+ km | Light trucks, utes |
| AC718 (UHP) | 480 | 55,000+ km | Performance sedans |
| AC818 (UHP) | 480 | 55,000+ km | Sports/luxury |
| EP Founder CE101 | 480/520 | 55,000–70,000 km | EVs, hybrids |
| AC808 (HP) | 420 | 50,000+ km | Daily commuters |
Real customer data: Many NZ drivers report exceeding these estimates. Regular rotation every 8,000–10,000 km and correct PSI extend life significantly.
Best models for touring:
- Sedans: AC808 — silicon formula lowers rolling resistance, four grooves handle rain, quiet ride. Top pick for SH1 commuters
- SUVs: AC828 — carbon polymer composite reduces rolling resistance while maintaining grip. Great for Tauranga–Auckland runs
- Performance: AC718 — UHP grip with optimised fuel economy. Suits longer-range Euro touring cars
Fuel economy benefit: Anchee's silica-based compounds typically reduce fuel consumption by 3–5% compared to older carbon-black formulations. On a 20,000 km/year driving habit at current NZ fuel prices, that's roughly $150–250 savings annually.
Depends on how much gravel versus sealed road you drive:
- Occasional gravel (rural side roads): AC828 (SUV) or AC858 (LT) handle gravel competently. Closed shoulder designs provide good stability. Fine for the odd gravel road to the bach or farm
- Regular gravel (daily rural use): The GRANDTRAC MT1 is purpose-built — open shoulder design with deepened grooves for mud and loose surfaces. Available 15"–17"
- Mixed use: AC858 is the best compromise — stronger carcass and convex sidewall design for puncture resistance, while still being comfortable on sealed roads
For serious off-road and gravel work, consider our Predator range — engineered specifically for that purpose.
What XL means: Extra Load tyres have reinforced sidewalls that allow higher inflation pressures (up to 42 PSI vs standard 36 PSI), increasing the weight the tyre can safely carry.
Anchee models commonly available in XL:
- AC818 — Many 18"–22" sizes are XL rated for heavier performance cars and SUVs
- AC828 — SUV sizes often come in XL for vehicles like Kia Sportage, Toyota RAV4, CX-5
- EP Founder CE101 — All EV sizes are reinforced for battery weight
NZ context: If your vehicle's door placard specifies XL tyres, you must fit XL or equivalent. Standard load tyres on an XL-specified vehicle will fail WOF and may be dangerous under load.
Check the product page for specific size availability, or contact us and we'll confirm XL availability for your size.
These are the three most commonly compared Anchee passenger models. Here's the breakdown:
| Feature | AC808 (HP) | AC718 (UHP) | AC818 (UHP) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Category | High Performance | Ultra High Perf. | Ultra High Perf. |
| Rim Sizes | 13"–16" | 17"–20" | 16"–22" |
| Treadwear | 420 | 480 | 480 |
| Pattern | Symmetric | Directional | Asymmetric |
| Best For | Daily commuters, economy | Spirited driving, wet grip | Sports cars, luxury |
| Noise | Very quiet | Quiet | Moderate |
| Wet Grip | Very good (B) | Excellent (B+) | Excellent (B) |
| Price | Most affordable | Mid-range | Mid-range |
Quick decision:
- 13"–16" rims → AC808 (only option, and it's excellent)
- 17"–20" rims, want directional look + hydroplaning resistance → AC718
- 16"–22" rims, want maximum dry grip + cornering → AC818
⚡ Anchee — EV, Specialty & Warranty
Electric vehicle tyres, run-flat options, winter compounds, and Anchee’s 5-year manufacturer warranty — what’s covered and how to claim.
What makes EV tyres different from standard tyres:
- Foam noise-dampening layer — EVs have no engine noise to mask road noise, so cabin silence matters far more. The CE101 has a polyurethane foam liner inside the tyre cavity
- Reinforced sidewalls — EVs are 200–500 kg heavier than equivalent petrol cars due to battery packs. Standard tyres may not safely handle the extra weight
- Low rolling resistance compound — Maximises range per charge. The CE101 uses optimised silica technology for efficiency
- Instant torque handling — EV motors deliver 100% torque from zero RPM, which accelerates tyre wear. The CE101's compound handles this
Fits common NZ EVs: Tesla Model 3/Y, BYD Atto 3/Dolphin, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Nissan Leaf, MG ZS EV, Polestar 2
Sizes: 17"–21" | Treadwear: 480–520
Which to choose:
- PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid): The EP Founder CE101 is ideal — its low rolling resistance maximises your EV range, and the foam liner keeps the cabin quiet during electric-only driving. PHEVs are typically 100–200 kg heavier than petrol equivalents, so the reinforced sidewalls help
- Standard Hybrid (e.g., Toyota Aqua, Corolla Hybrid): Any Anchee model in the correct size works perfectly. The AC808 is our top pick — its silica compound reduces rolling resistance to help fuel economy, which is the whole point of driving a hybrid
Common NZ hybrids and recommended Anchee models:
- Toyota Aqua/Prius → AC808 (15"–16") or AC718 (17")
- Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV → AC828 (18") or CE101 (18")
- Toyota RAV4 Hybrid → AC828 (17"–19")
Run-flat advantages:
- Drive up to 80 km at 80 km/h after a puncture — no roadside tyre change needed
- Reinforced sidewalls support the vehicle even with zero air pressure
- UTQG treadwear: 480 — good longevity for a run-flat
Common NZ vehicles requiring run-flats: BMW 3/5 Series, Mercedes C/E Class, Mini Cooper, some Lexus models. These vehicles often lack a spare tyre from the factory.
Check availability for your size — contact us or search for Anchee run-flat in your size.
Anchee manufacturer warranty:
- Duration: 5 years from date of manufacture (DOT date on sidewall)
- Coverage: Defects in materials and workmanship
- Processed: Locally in NZ through Tyre Dispatch — no sending tyres overseas
What's covered:
- Tread separation or delamination
- Sidewall bubbles or bulges from manufacturing defects
- Air leaks caused by bead or carcass defects
- Abnormal or premature wear from manufacturing issues
What's NOT covered:
- Road hazard damage (punctures, impacts, cuts)
- Wear caused by misalignment, incorrect pressure, or overloading
- Cosmetic damage to sidewall lettering
- Tyres used in racing or competition
NZ Consumer Guarantees Act protections apply on top of the manufacturer warranty — tyres must be fit for purpose and of acceptable quality regardless of the warranty terms.
Every tyre has a DOT code stamped on the sidewall. The last four digits tell you when it was made:
- Format: DOT XXXX XXXX 2524
- First two digits = week: 25 = week 25
- Last two digits = year: 24 = 2024
- So 2524 = manufactured in June 2024
How fresh are our Anchee tyres? As the direct importer, we receive stock straight from the factory. Most of our Anchee inventory is less than 12 months old — far fresher than what you'll find through third-party distributors or online marketplaces.

🦅 Predator — Quality & Background
USA-designed by Transamerica Tire Co. in Memphis, Tennessee. Manufacturing origins, quality standards, and why Predator is not made in China.
Predator Tyres are designed and engineered in the USA by Transamerica Tire Co. in Memphis, Tennessee.
Manufacturing locations:
- 🇺🇸 USA — Design, engineering, and quality standards
- 🇰🇭 Cambodia — Current primary manufacturing facility
- 🇹🇭 Thailand — Select models
- 🇻🇳 Vietnam — Select models
Current NZ stock: Manufactured in Cambodia and Vietnam under strict US quality standards, with AI-driven defect detection and rigorous endurance testing.
Cambodia and Vietnam have become major tyre manufacturing hubs — the same factories supply other well-known US and Australian brands. The advantage is lower production costs without the geopolitical and quality perception issues associated with Chinese manufacturing.
US-engineered performance with four key differentiators:
- 3-ply sidewall construction on all LT patterns — superior puncture resistance versus standard 2-ply. This is a feature typically found on tyres costing $100+ more per tyre
- Advanced compound technology — developed in US laboratories using premium silica formulations
- AI-driven quality control — every tyre undergoes automated defect detection before leaving the factory
- High UTQG treadwear grades — premium-level longevity ratings backed by mileage warranties
Industry-leading warranty package:
- 4-year manufacturer warranty
- FREE VIP Road Hazard protection (competitors charge $20–40 per tyre)
- Mileage warranties up to 55,000 miles (~88,000 km)
Real-world validation: Independent Australian reviews confirmed Predator tyres deliver impressive quietness on sealed roads, strong wet and dry grip, and standout off-road capability. Users regularly achieve 50,000+ miles on a set.
By pattern:
- Comptrax PR1 A/S — Best wet performance. Three main grooves with curved lateral channels for maximum water evacuation. Deep sipes interlock for wet grip. EU wet braking tested
- New Mutant X-AT — Deep multi-functional grooves deliver strong wet grip. Users report confident handling in heavy NZ rain
- RT Trail — Open tread design clears water quickly, though larger void ratio means slightly less sealed-road contact
- X-MT — High void-to-lug ratio helps shed water rapidly but has less continuous road contact. Best suited for mixed conditions rather than motorway rain driving
Key point: Even the most aggressive Predator off-road tyres perform well in wet conditions. The deep siping across all patterns provides biting edges for wet grip. Independent Australian testing over 5,000 km confirmed strong wet performance across the range.
🔧 Braking Distance Calculator — see how terrain type affects wet stopping distances
What 3-ply means: Three layers of reinforced nylon or polyester in the sidewall versus the industry-standard two layers. This adds:
- Greater sidewall strength: Better resistance to cuts, snags, and impacts from rocks and debris
- Improved load carrying: Stiffer sidewalls distribute weight more evenly
- Enhanced off-road protection: Critical for driving over sharp rocks, exposed roots, and farm debris
Factory testing: Predator puts every tyre through compression tests against pointed studs and slices samples to check for air pockets between plies. This goes beyond standard production testing.
NZ relevance: On rural NZ roads with loose metal, broken fence wire, and sheep netting debris, 3-ply protection is genuinely valuable — not just a marketing feature.
Brands that typically charge extra for 3-ply: BF Goodrich KO2 ($100+ more per tyre), Toyo Open Country ($80+ more). Predator includes it as standard on all LT patterns.
Price-per-kilometre is the only fair comparison metric — it accounts for both purchase price and tread life.
Example comparison (265/70R17 — common Hilux/Ranger size):
| Tyre | Approx. Price | Est. Life | Cost/km |
|---|---|---|---|
| Predator RT Trail | ~$250 | 80,000 km | $0.31/100km |
| BFGoodrich KO2 | ~$380 | 80,000 km | $0.48/100km |
| Toyo Open Country AT3 | ~$340 | 75,000 km | $0.45/100km |
| Cooper Discoverer AT3 | ~$320 | 75,000 km | $0.43/100km |
Result: Predator delivers comparable tread life at 30–40% lower cost per kilometre. Factor in the FREE VIP Road Hazard warranty (valued at $20–40 per tyre from competitors), and the value gap widens further.
Why the price difference? We're the direct importer — no middlemen, no franchise fees, no local wholesaler margin. You're buying at one step from the factory.

🏔️ Predator — Model Guide & NZ Use Cases
X-MT, X-AT, RT Trail, and Comptrax PR1 — which Predator pattern suits NZ utes, 4WDs, and specific terrain from farm tracks to highway cruising.
Four core patterns — each purpose-built for different driving needs:
🏕️ New Mutant X-MT
Mud TerrainExtreme off-road. High void-to-lug ratio for mud ejection. "X-TREME SPIKE" dual sidewall. 3PMSF rated (select sizes).
🌄 New Mutant X-AT
All TerrainVersatile daily + off-road. "X" pattern with pitch variation for quiet ride. "SPIKE" dual sidewall. 50,000mi warranty.
⛰️ New Mutant RT Trail
Rugged TerrainThe hybrid. Off-road capability with highway manners. "TALON" dual sidewall. Stone ejectors. 55,000mi warranty.
🛣️ Comptrax PR1 A/S
All SeasonHighway performance. Three grooves + curved laterals. Quietest Predator. 40,000mi warranty. Cars, crossovers, SUVs.
Depends on how much gravel versus sealed road you drive:
- Mostly gravel (farm tracks, forestry, rural): X-MT — Maximum stone ejection, deepest tread for loose surface traction. The "X-TREME SPIKE" sidewall shrugs off sharp rocks
- 50/50 gravel and sealed: RT Trail — Best compromise. Stone ejectors keep tread clear while the optimised void ratio maintains sealed-road comfort. Our top seller for NZ farmers who also commute to town
- Mostly sealed with occasional gravel: X-AT — Quieter on motorway but staggered shoulder lugs still grip well on gravel. Best for weekend warriors heading to the bach
NZ context: New Zealand has approximately 65,000 km of unsealed roads — more than our sealed network. If you live rurally, investing in a tyre designed for gravel isn't a luxury, it's a safety necessity.
Why RT Trail excels for towing:
- 3-ply sidewalls handle increased lateral stress from trailer sway
- Optimised void-to-lug ratio balances grip with stability at highway speeds
- Even tread wear pattern — critical when towing adds weight to rear axle
- 55,000 mile warranty — longest in the range, covering the extra wear from heavy loads
NZ towing scenarios covered:
- Boat ramp: Strong wet grip on concrete ramps. The RT Trail's self-cleaning tread handles sand and mud at launch sites
- Caravan touring: Highway comfort and stability at 90–100 km/h. Quiet ride for long stretches
- Horse float: High load capacity with reinforced construction for heavy, shifting loads
Why the X-MT dominates farm mud:
- High void-to-lug ratio: Deep channels between tread blocks allow mud to be scooped and ejected with every rotation — the tyre self-cleans rather than clogging up
- Staggered shoulder lugs: Bite into soft surfaces at the tread edge for traction when partially submerged in mud
- Mud/stone ejectors: Built into the tread base to prevent stones packing between lugs
- "X-TREME SPIKE" sidewall: Extended lugs on the sidewall provide grip when sunk past the tread surface
- 3PMSF rated (select sizes): Certified for severe winter conditions — handles cold, wet, muddy paddocks
NZ winter farm reality: Waikato and Bay of Plenty dairy farms get saturated June–August. The X-MT is our top recommendation for farmers who need to access paddocks, tracks, and races in the worst conditions.
Why the X-AT is our top daily recommendation:
- Pitch variation technology: Minimises road noise — users consistently report it's whisper-quiet compared to previous AT/MT tyres
- Advanced "X" tread pattern: Highway stability with enough off-road bite for weekend adventures
- 50,000 mile warranty: Designed for daily use, not just weekend off-roading
- Dual sidewall design: Choose your look — "SPIKE" aggressive side or clean side out
Perfect for NZ drivers who:
- Commute on motorways Monday–Friday
- Hit the beach, ski field, or bush tracks on weekends
- Want the look and capability of an AT without the daily noise penalty
Alternative: If you want even more off-road capability but still commute daily, the RT Trail is the step up — slightly more aggressive but still surprisingly comfortable.
Noise increases with tread aggressiveness — more void space means more air turbulence. Here's the realistic ranking:
| Pattern | Noise Level | Highway Feel | User Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| PR1 A/S | Very quiet | Luxury car smooth | "Can barely hear them" |
| X-AT | Quiet | Comfortable cruiser | "Quieter than my old Coopers" |
| RT Trail | Moderate | Slight hum above 80 km/h | "Surprisingly quiet for an RT" |
| X-MT | Noticeable | Definite road presence | "Way quieter than expected for an MT" |
Key insight: Predator's pitch variation technology in both the X-AT and RT Trail significantly reduces the drone that plagues many competitor AT/RT tyres. Multiple reviewers specifically note that Predator's off-road tyres are quieter than equivalents from bigger brands.
NZ chipseal factor: All tyres are louder on NZ chipseal than smooth European asphalt. If you're primarily on sealed NZ roads and noise bothers you, the X-AT is the sweet spot of capability versus cabin quiet.
Common NZ ute fitments covered across the Predator range:

⚖️ Pricing, Safety & Choosing Between Brands
Why our prices are lower, whether cheap tyres are safe, how to choose between Anchee and Predator, and mixing brands on the same vehicle.
We're direct importers. As the exclusive NZ distributor for both Predator and Anchee, we cut out the middlemen entirely.
How the tyre supply chain normally works:
- Factory → Regional distributor → NZ wholesaler → Retailer → You (3–4 margins added)
How Tyre Dispatch works:
- Factory → Tyre Dispatch → You (1 margin)
Result: Premium-quality tyres at 30–50% less than equivalent branded alternatives. No franchise fees, no marketing levies, no showroom costs. We operate from our Te Puke warehouse with a lean team and pass the savings directly to you.
This isn't "cheap quality": These are the same tyres, same specifications, same factory quality control — just without the traditional distribution markups.
📖 How We Compare to Other NZ Retailers | 📖 19 Budget Brands Compared
Not all Chinese tyres are equal — quality varies enormously, just like any manufacturing country. The key is certification and testing standards.
What makes Anchee different from generic Chinese imports:
- ISO 17025 laboratory certification — independently audited testing facility
- 10+ year Yokohama technology partnership — world-class compound and design expertise
- Published EU Tyre Label ratings — wet grip, rolling resistance, and noise grades on public record
- UTQG certification — US DOT regulated treadwear, traction, and temperature grades
- E-mark certification — every size individually approved to UN ECE standards
China produces one-third of the world's tyres. Major global brands including Goodyear, Michelin, and Continental all manufacture in China. The question isn't where it's made — it's what quality systems are in place.
Note: Predator tyres are NOT made in China — they're manufactured in Cambodia, Vietnam, and Thailand under US engineering standards.

On top of this: The New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act protections apply to all tyres we sell. Regardless of manufacturer warranty terms, tyres must be fit for purpose, of acceptable quality, and match their description. This is your legal right as a NZ consumer.
Our commitment: We process all warranty claims locally — no sending tyres overseas, no weeks of waiting. If a claim is valid, we sort it fast.
Examples:
- Anchee AC828 on front axle + Predator X-AT on rear axle = ✓ WOF OK (if sizes match on each axle)
- Anchee AC808 left + Predator PR1 right on same axle = ❌ Different brands, likely different construction — avoid this
Best practice: For optimal handling balance, match all four corners with the same brand and model. Different tyre constructions have different grip profiles, which can make handling unpredictable in emergency manoeuvres.
Common scenario: Replacing just the rear pair? Putting Predator X-ATs on the rear with existing Anchee AC828s on the front is fine for WOF — just plan to match all four next time.
This is the most common question we get from NZ drivers. The answer depends on your vehicle:
Sedan/hatchback/crossover:
- Anchee AC828 (SUV) — If your vehicle takes SUV-rated tyres. Excellent highway comfort with enough tread depth for the occasional gravel road. Quietest option
- Anchee AC808 (HP) — For standard passenger sizes. Great motorway tyre, handles the odd gravel road to the bach. Not for regular gravel use
Ute/4WD/SUV:
- Predator X-AT — Our top pick. 90% motorway comfort with 10% off-road capability. Quiet enough for daily commuting, capable enough for gravel weekends
- Predator RT Trail — If gravel is more like 30%+ of your driving. Slightly more road noise but significantly better off-road grip
Quick rule of thumb:
- Less than 10% gravel → Anchee (HP or SUV model)
- 10–30% gravel → Predator X-AT
- 30%+ gravel → Predator RT Trail or X-MT
For sealed road wet braking, Anchee has the edge due to their EU wet grip certification and silica compound focus:
- 🥇 Anchee AC818 (UHP) — Best overall wet grip. Asymmetric tread with aggressive lateral grooves for maximum water evacuation
- 🥈 Anchee AC718 (UHP) — Directional pattern specifically optimised for hydroplaning resistance
- 🥉 Predator PR1 A/S — Best Predator for wet. Three main grooves with curved lateral channels, deep sipes for wet grip
For mixed sealed/unsealed wet conditions (muddy tracks, wet gravel), Predator takes the lead:
- Predator X-AT — Deep multi-functional grooves handle both rain on asphalt and puddles on dirt
- Predator X-MT — Self-cleaning tread prevents mud buildup that kills grip in wet off-road conditions
Key NZ insight: If you're primarily on sealed roads in Auckland, Wellington, or Christchurch — where heavy rain is regular — wet braking on asphalt is what matters. Anchee's EU B-rated models stop measurably shorter than most budget alternatives.
We source tyres from various locations worldwide. Manufacturing location matters less than quality systems — look for ISO certifications, published UTQG/EU ratings, and proper warranty backing.
Our brand selection criteria: Every brand we stock must have verifiable quality certifications, E-mark approval for NZ road use, and a track record of reliability in the NZ market. We don't stock anonymous brands with no testing data.
